Understanding Business Telephone Systems
Business owners sometimes take their telephone systems for granted, but they actually are one of the more important aspects for running a successful business. A business phone system can help an organization with staying in communication with their vendors, customers and employees. Some phone features are standard and come with just about any type of phone system, including call forwarding, transfer, voice mail, and your basic ring tone, but other considerations and advanced features will need to be carefully thought out when selecting the right telephone system for a business.
Before actually buying a business telephone system, the organization needs to determine which types of phone features are necessary and the number of individuals who will need to use the telephone system. Larger businesses often need to have advanced features, whereas smaller businesses may be able to get along just fine with basic features but be cost conscious. Every organization and business will need to figure out what their specific needs are for their telephone system.
Business telephone systems come in two major types. There are VOIP and PBX systems. Both of them have advantages and also disadvantages. The important thing for a business to do, is know ahead of time what their specific telephone system needs are and have a good understanding of the two major types of telephone systems.
A PBX telephone system provides businesses with many basic as well as advanced phone features. The telephone system is run from a centralized PBX cabinet and offers the business a private phone network. The business has a certain number of external phone lines that they can use to make business phone calls.
PBX telephone systems are very powerful and offer many advanced features along with basic ones. This form of phone system, however, is a lot more expensive than a VOIP telephone system in terms of not only their monthly charges but the installation as well. However, larger businesses may need the advanced features, which could make this type of telephone system still be cost effective.
A more recent telephone system is the VOIP phone system. Using VOIP rather than a traditional phone line can save a business a lot of money on international and other long distance calls. Phone calls are made over an IP-based network or over the internet and do not use external phone lines.
The biggest advantage to a VOIP system is the cost. These telephone systems are cheaper to install and cost less on a monthly basis as well. International and long distance phone calls will cost much less using VOIP than they would be on a PBX telephone system.
When selecting a telephone system of a business, the most important consideration is determining the exact phone needs of the business. Next some upfront research will need to be done and quotes from several telephone service providers obtained. These steps will help to ensure that the best telephone system is selected to meet the needs of the business.
